Decency

Dear Jane Hunter,

I am writing to commend you for your success as president of the Phillis Wheatley Association. It is about time that some one take those poor lost negro girls and give them some decent etiquette. Why just the other day, I overheard my son's conversation. You would not believe the perversion that came out of his mouth! Some of his friends visit those horrible clubs that you work so hard to prevent your girls from going to and they go to see black girls who seduce the boys. Those clubs bring down the white race and make gentlemen succumb to such to the saucy ways of ill behaved black prostitutes. I just can't thank you enough for what you are doing to make those poor forlorn black girls into proper black ladies. It is a person like you, a person who can raise up your race, who is worth and deserving the respect of a lady. I just encourage you to keep a tight hold on your girls and keep a wary eye or else they are bound to run off to those rowdy good for nothing clubs! Continue your observant vigilance, my good black woman!

Your dear acquaintance and neighbor,
Mrs. White
